Instructions:

  1. Cook the spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package directions. Drain and toss with a little olive oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Sauté the vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, carrots, and garlic. Cook until softened.
  3. Brown the meat: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up into small pieces, until browned.
  4. Deglaze with wine: Pour the white wine into the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the liquid has reduced.
  5. Make the sauce: Add the crushed tomatoes and 2 ladles of the pasta cooking water to the skillet. Season with salt, black pepper, oregano, basil, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  6. Combine: Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately.
