Ingredients:

For the Filling:
  • 1.1 lbs (500 g) ground beef
  • 2.2 lbs (1 kg) potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 8.8 oz (250 g) canned tomatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/2 bunch parsley, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Paprika to taste
  • Savory to taste
  • Olive oil
For the Topping:
  • 17.6 oz (500 g) plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is no longer pink.
  2. Add the onion, carrots, and garlic to the pot and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until softened.
  3. Stir in the potatoes, canned tomatoes, salt, black pepper, paprika, savory, and parsley. Mix well.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and add 1 cup (200-300 ml) of water.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) without fan convection and place the baking dish in the lower rack of the oven. Bake for about 1 hour.
  6. While the moussaka is baking, prepare the topping. In a large bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, egg, flour, baking soda, and a pinch of salt.
  7. After 1 hour, remove the moussaka from the oven, pour the topping over it, and return to the oven.
  8. Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until the topping is golden brown.
  9. Cut the moussaka into portions and serve.
